They train under the direction of team coach, Meganne Stewart and team choreographer Linda Bennett.
The team qualified for the London festival of gymnastics back in May 2012. This qualification selected the top 55 teams from hundreds of teams across Ireland and Britain. The Finesse Gymnastics Display Team are the second ever team to make the final stage of the festival.
The team along with a group of parents and coaches travelled to Brentwood Arena, Essex, London on Friday 19th October to take part in the London Festival of Gymnastics 2012, where just over 1400 gymnasts participated. They competed against extremely stiff competition from across Britain and Ireland on Friday and Saturday. The gymnasts performed to the very best of their abilities and executed an outstandingly solid and precise routine. Their wonderful performances even led to event co-ordinator, president of London Gymnastics, approaching team manager, Tony King to inform him that the team had caused quite a stir amongst other teams and coaches. They had every one at the event talking about their originality and accuracy of movement.
After this boast of confidence the gymnasts eagerly awaited the final results. As the session drew to a close the Donegal gymnasts were awarded with gold medals for their performance of their routine; Irish Dolls. This placing was accredited to their innovation of choreography and precision throughout their routine. This is a huge feat for this young team especially as they are the first Irish team to receive this accolade.
The team now are looking to set their sights on Europe and are aiming to qualify for European Championships in Frankfurt in July 2013. Who knows what the future may hold for this young and talented team of girls!!!
The team would like to thank their sponsors Paul Holmes of XP Projects, London as well as Cathal and Leanne of C&M embroidery/Tshirt Express, Letterkenny and finally Mike and Angela for all their help and support at the Vestry Letterkenny.
