Donegal push the case for home clash with Tyrone in Ulster

Donegal’s prospects of hosting their Ulster Championship quarter-final with Tyrone in Ballybofey on May 26 have received a major shot in the arm.
This follows a decision of the Donegal county committee at their monthly meeting last night to give a refurbishment plan to bring the capacity at MacCumhaill Park up to 18,000 the thumbs up - 17,500 is the minimum capacity laid down by the Ulster Council.
Tenders for the €120,000 project are due to go to contractors this week. And it is hoped to begin work on the project, which is estimated to take five to six weeks to complete, in the next few weeks.
Outlining details of the plan Donegal Development Officer Michael McMenamin, said that Croke Park was supporting the project with a €10,000 grant towards the computerised counting system and 33 per cent towards the rest of the cost with the remainder of the cost coming from the county’s own resources.
While no guarantees have been received that the game will be played in Ballybofey, Donegal chairman Sean Dunnion, did tell the committee: “If the refurbishment work is carried out, it would put the county in a great position to stage the game.”
The project includes the installation of a computerised counting system on the turnstiles, the erection of security fencing, realignment of crash barriers on terraces, and the building of new turnstiles.
If Ballybofey is not ready to host the fixture the Ulster Council’s most likely venue will be Clones.
