The Republic of Ireland U-17 squad face into a second friendly against Croatia on Thursday morning in Umag (kick-off 10am Irish Time).

Ryan Rainey from Letterkenny, who is on the books of Wolverhampton Wanderers, played right-back, while Sunderland’s goalkeeper Peter Burke, from Moville, were part of the team that lost 2-1 in the first of two friendly meetings between the sides on Tuesday in Novigrad. Simon Reece of Queen’s Park Rangers was the Irish goalscorer. Christopher Flanagan from Letterkenny and Finn Harps is part of the travelling party.

Ireland will take on hosts Serbia, Austria and Gerogia in the Elite Stage of the Uefa Elite U-17 qualifiers in late March. The side are managed by Tom Mohan, the former Finn Harps midfielder.

Then, on Tuesday night, the Republic of Ireland home-based U-18 team lost 2-0 in a friendly game against Wales at Bangor City.

Wales opened the scoring when Zyacc Edwards scored after 15 minutes. The home side extended their lead in the 23th minute when Callum Holden raced onto a ball over the top and beat Irish keeper Shane Morrissey and defender Paddy Slevin to poke home.

Letterkenny’s Conor Tourish, who is on the books of Derry City, played in midfield alongside George Kelly from Aileach FC and another Letterkenny native, Darragh Black of Finn Harps. Milford’s Cathal McDaid, also of Harps, was a half-time substitute.

Dale Gorman, who will sign for Stevenage Borough from Letterkenny Rovers in July, was part of the Northern Ireland U-17 side that defeated Slovenia away from home in a friendly on Tuesday. The teams will meet again on Thursday.

Northern Ireland will take on hosts Norway, Holland and Italy in the Elite Stage of the Uefa Elite qualifiers.
