DANIEL O’DONNELL will give the full proceeds from a concert at Bundoran in August to the reformed Donegal GAA Supporters’ Club.

The news was announced by county chairman Sean Dunnion on Sunday in Ballybofey that the famous entertainer will play the concert at the Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran on Wednesday, August 7.

“We’re delighted and it’s a huge gesture from Daniel and one we’re really appreciative of,” Dunnion said. “It will help make a great start in getting this supporters’ club off the ground again.”

The club will help fun the various county teams and will operate in conjunction with the county board.

Membership rates to join the club for €20 per annum for an adult, with juvenile rates available at €10. A family membership fee will be decided on at the first meeting of the newly-formed committee on Thursday, Match 7, in the Villa Rose Hotel in Ballybofey.

Fr Brian Quinn of Letterkenny Gaels was appointed chairman of the club, with Aidan Cannon from Milford the vice-chairman.

Katriona McCaffrey from St Mary’s Convoy will be secretary and she will be assisted by Ardara’s Edward Molloy. County treasurer Grace Boyle will be treasurer of the supporters’ club and assistant treasurer will be St Naul’s Brendan Brady.

“There will be a harmony,” Ms Boyle said. “We’ll support the supporters’ club on the county executive and help provide a support for the county teams. In 1992, the old supporters’ club gave £100,000 to the county teams and £60,000 in 1993.”

The committee will be made up of Brendan Callaghan (Killybegs), Seamus McBride (Moville), Ann Rodgers (Killybegs), Mickey McMahon (Bundoran), Paddy Bradley (Downings), Eddie Walsh (Ballybofey), Gerry and Eilish Rush (Castlefin), Barye Gallagher (Ballybofey), Brendan Kelly (Convoy), Pat Ellison (Dunkineely), Seamus Gallen (Killygordon) and Aideen Gillen (Dungloe) and there will be efforts made to get two further Inishowen representatives and one from the Gweedore/Falcarragh area.

“I believe the supporters’ club is a good and important unit,” Fr Brian Quinn said. “I know there are always demands but I have great memories from the previous supporters’ club and we had fun doing what we did.”
