Coleman helps Everton into FA Cup quarter-finals
Seamus Coleman, Everton
Seamus Coleman is one step from another Wembley appearance after his Everton side overcame Oldham Athletic 3-1 in last night’s FA Cup fifth round replay at Goodison Park.
Kevin Mirallas guided in Darron Gibson’s cross to put Everton ahead after a 2-2 draw at Boundary Park last Saturday week.
The hosts, who featured Derry native Shane Duffy on the bench, had two scares when Jose Baxter hit the post and Gibson handled in his own area, but Leighton Baines later converted a penalty.
Leon Osman nodded in Steven Pienaar’s cross and despite a towering header from Matt Smith, Oldham were not going to repeat this giantkilling act from round three, when the League Two side defeated Liverpool 3-2.
Killybegs native Coleman played in last year’s FA Cup semi-final loss against Liverpool and with the last four ties taking place at the home of English football, is set for a third appearance there.
The 24-year-old also lined out for Blackpool in the 2010 Championship play-off final win over Cardiff City having been loaned from Everton.
The Merseysiders welcome Wigan Athletic on Friday, March 9, for their quarter-final.
