Bradford could parade McHugh tonight
Carl McHugh
Lettermacaward native Carl McHugh will be hopeful of making his league debut tonight as his new club Bradford City take on Fleetwood Town at Valley Parade (kick-off 7.45pm).
McHugh became manager Phil Parkinson’s 11th summer singing when he joined the Yorkshire club on Friday, the eve of the new season. The 19-year-old former Reading trainee, who can play both centre half or left back, impressed during a pre-season trial before signing a one-year deal with the League Two outfit.
McHugh was an unused substitute on Saturday as brace from Danny Kedwell helped Gillingham secure a win against Bradford. Kedwell opened the scoring with an exquisite lob and doubled the lead with a powerful penalty after Garry Thompson’s foul on Charlie Lee.
Bradford got back in it when Nahki Wells converted from the spot, after being fouled by Andy Frampton. But Myles Weston, on his debut, sealed the win, finishing low into the corner.
McHugh gained experience on loan from Reading two years ago at Southern Football League Premier Division club Swindon Supermarine and Dundalk in the Airtricity League before being released by Reading. He has been capped at U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-19 level by the Republic of Ireland.
