Gunners Thompson fire Naomh Conaill to the final

Last gasp goalscorers Anthony Thompson and his brother Leon were the toast of Glenties on Sunday night after their two late goals put the nail in Glenswilly's championship coffin.

Anthony posted the first two minutes from the end of normal time to tie up the game at 1-11 to 2-8 and Leon added the second on the hour mark to finally seal Naomh Conail's place in the decider and a return to Sean MacCumhaill Park on county final day.

No man appreciated the Thompson double more than veteran midfielder Johnny McLoone, who was one of a number of championship winners in the Naomh Conaill side from five years ago.

"Their is no question about it, the Thompsons won the game for us; Anthony with the goal and Leon with his general play all through and of course the second goal that clinched it," said Johnny.

"We could not have two better men on the ball when we needed the goal and I thought Leo (McLoone) showed great awareness from the free when he spotted Anthony in front of the goals and Anthony was the right man in the right place at the right time. I don't think we would have anyone else that would have the presence to go for it in that situation.

"It was a big score and the turning point in the game and brought us back into it when we were in bother and I noticed their heads went down after it too.

"To be honest a couple of minutes beforehand looking up at the scoreboard and Glenswilly were three up and thinking to myself we will be lucky to get out of here with a draw. I would definitely have taken a draw at that stage.

"We are delighted to be back in the final, especially after last year because we felt we let ourselves down.

"And taking nothing away from St. Eunan's, who played very well, we only played for 20 minutes. So now we are back in the final and have the chance to make amends and that has been our main aim from the start of the year."
