Donegal’s starlets gave a fine second half performance to post a

one-point win over St Mary’s in their final outing of the NI Power Dr

McKenna Cup.

Donegal 1-14

St Mary’s 2-10

Maxi Curran was again in charge and the Donegal U-21 manager would’ve

been content with the start made by Odhran MacNiallais, who scored 1-3

in the opening exchanges with the goal coming on eight minutes

following a pass from Ross Wherity.

St Mary’s, however, wrestled their way back into the match and with

Brendan Herron showing up well, went in a point to the good at

half-time, 2-5 to 1-7 up. Herron scored from a penalty before Ronan

Sexton slapped home from close range.

Donegal, though, fought their way back into the game and five

successive second half scores put them in front. There was an element

of confusion when a St Mary’s point was awarded as two on the

scoreboard but a late Conor Gibbons point proved to be the winner.
