Cassidy and Gallagher have bans reduced

Tom Comack

Kevin Cassidy and his club manager Sean 'Nancy' Gallagher have had their twelve week bans, recently imposed by the Donegal Competitions Control Committee, reduced to four weeks on appeal.

The decision to reduce the suspensions was taken by the County Hearings Committee after appeals from both Cassidy and Gallagher on Tuesday night in Ballybofey.

The pair had been recommended for the 12 weeks suspensions by the Donegal CCC following an alleged altercation with referee Seamus Bradley at the end of their league game with Naomh Conaill, in Magheragallon at the beginning of last month. The four-week suspensions will be up this Saturday night September 5th.

It is understood that Glenswilly official Joe Kelly and Glenswilly manager John McGinley, who were at the game in question, gave evidence at the hearing.

Meanwhile it is understood that the CCCC are due to discuss referee Kieran McShea’s report into the alleged verbal assualt on the Sean MacCumhaill's official at the end of last Saturday evening's game between Fanad Gaels and Glenfin, in Portsalon, at their next meeting.

The Democrat has also learned that the disciplinary process has begun into the recent alleged assault on young Termon referee Donal Gallagher by a supporter following the Division Three county U-16 final in Convoy.

It is believed the Coiste Na nOg, the committee that run underage football and hurling in the county, dealt with the matter at their monthly meeting last Wednesday night and made their recommendations.

However, the matter is now with the county management committee and it is expected that the Naomh Padraig club will be informed in the coming days of the outcome of the Coiste Na nOg's findings and any penalties being recommended.
