Some of the most understated people in the community are those people that care for the elderly or those with challenges in our midst.

One Donegal company has relaunched it’s campaign to find that extra special person in the community that goes that extra mile in helping out the more vulnerable in our community.

Ramona Nicholas of Cara who have a policy of working with their local communities said, “As pharmacists we come across very unique people across the counter. Many of these are the unsung heroes in our community.

“This is our way of rewarding a special member in your community who cares for others to the level that it impacts on their own personal day to day life.”

She added, “These type of people, for the most part go unnoticed; their work, care and attention is without doubt unrivalled.”

She added, “Nominees for Carer of the Year can be someone who cares for one or more people whether it’s a neighbour, a friend, relative or child. Nominations can also be made for those in the caring profession including home help. doctors, nurses and care workers.”

Concluding she said. “We were delighted to give this award to Maureen Duran in 2012. A truly inspirational lady, she set up the Sligo Cancer Support and remains today one of it’s main advocates. “
