Alzheimer’s Tea Day

Alzheimer’s Tea Day

All at Owenea Trading, Mill Road, Glenties would like to say a Big Thank You to everyone who called to the shop on May 1st ‘Alzheimer’s Tea Day’ and to all those who gave donations. Thanks also to everyone who helped with the Tea and Una, Niamh and Ronan for all the home baking. Altogether € 626.06 was raised on the day. Thanks again to everyone. All proceeds from this event will be spent on local Alzheimer Services for families in County Donegal.


Congratulations to the young boys and girls who received the Sacrament of Confirmation in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday last 18th May.

The Late Sean Mc Gettigan

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital, on Sunday 11th May 2014 of Sean Mc Gettigan, Mill Road and originally of Straboy, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home on Monday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday afternoon. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass at 2 00 p.m. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music was by Ernan O’ Donnell and Siobhan Brown (Mc Elhinney). Burial took place afterwards in the New Graveyard. Sean is survived by his wife, Mena, three daughters, Maureen, Margaret and Carol, two sons Gerry and Martin, sister, Nuala Quinn, brother, Seamus, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Three sisters, Peggy Mc Hugh, Breid Boyce and Grainne Mc Dyer predeceased him.

First Holy Communion

Children from St. Riaghan’s N.S. Drimnacrosh, Kilkenny N.S. and Scoil Mhuire will receive their First Holy Communion next Saturday 24th May at 11.00.a.m. Mass in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties.

Party for First Communion Children

The Annual party for the First Holy Communion Children, their families and guests will be held in the Community Centre after the Mass

Day of Prayer and Healing

Eddie Stones will conduct a Healing Service in Clonfert, Co. Galway on Saturday 31st May. A bus is arranged and will depart Stranorlar Chapel at 6.00 a.m., Donegal Town at 6.30 a.m. and Ballyshannon at 6.45 a.m. To book a seat contact 074 9551440.

Glenties Community Centre

Bingo in the Glenties Community Centre every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Every line is €.50, every house is €100. Jackpot if not won, will be € 2700 on 45 numbers or less on 20 / 05 / 2014, if not won on the night, €300 will be paid out. In house draws.

Bowls in the Community Centre every Monday at 8 p.m.

Drama for children from 4.15 p.m to 7 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Fintown Festival

Fintown Festival takes place from Friday 30th May until Monday 2nd June. It starts off with a Fireworks display on the banks of Lough Finn on Friday night. On Saturday there is a 20k, 40k and 60k Leisure Cycle with Tír Chonaill GAP CC. The Gaeltacht Lar 5k Fun Run in aid of Donegal Hospice, Digger Handling Skills, Quad and Tractor Reversing also takes place on Saturday. Sunday is Family Fun Day at the Train Station, with a Regatta on Lough Finn with Donegal Coastal Rowing Association, Hills and Glens Honda Run and a Vintage Tractor Run in aid of Donegal Mountain Rescue with Mid West Vintage Club, Vintage Car Display The Lord Mayor Crowning Dance is in the Noble Bar On Momday Fintown Harps under age Soccer Tournament is at Páirc Ácla at 11 00 a.m.

Downstrands Family Resource Centre – An Evening of Musical EntertainmenT

The Donegal Abbey Singers and Donegal Youth Choir will present an evening of musical entertainment in the Dolmen Centre, Portnoo on Saturday 31st May at 8.30 p.m. This will be a magical evening of entertainment by these two very talented choirs and their soloists. Admission is € 10 and € 5 for children. Proceeds will go to Downstrands Family Counselling Service and Rosbeg & Downstrands Care of the Aged.

Downstrands Family Resource Centre

Rectors Challenge Charity Cycle

The annual Rectors Challenge Charity Cycle from Glencolmcille to Lettermacaward will take place on Saturday 24th May. Registration is from 10.00 a.m. and cycle starts at 11.00 a.m. For further information contact Hazel on 0871390242 or

Coffee Morning and Reflexology Sessions

There will be a Coffee Morning in Inniskeel Hall Portnoo on Saturday 24th May at 11.00 a.m. Come along and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat. Ros Barrett will give reflexology sessions from 11.00 a.m. These sessions will be 15 minutes long and payment is by donation. These activities are in conjunction with the Rectors Charity Cycle and the proceeds are in aid of Downstrands Family Counselling Service and Kilclooney St Vincent de Paul.

Downstrands Women’s Group

There will be a series of cookery demonstrations starting on Wednesday 21st May for 4 weeks. They will follow on Wednesday 28th May and 4th & 11th June in the Women’s Centre Kilclooney at 7.30 p.m. These sessions are FREE. Come along and enjoy the fun and bring a friend.

Cash for Clobber at St. Riaghan’s N.S. Drimnacrosh

Cash for Clobber Collection will take place at the school on Tuesday 27th May, organised by the Green Team. The school will receive a cash donation for each well filled ‘Cash for Clobber’ or bin liner size bag. Money collected will go towards school funds. Filled bags can be brought to the school on Monday 26th or early on the morning of Tuesday 27th May. This collection is part of the Green School’s Initiative that is on – going within the school, and is an opportunity to get rid of unwanted clothes, shoes and textiles in an environmentally friendly way.
