Text Alert Launch
Following a series of meetings that have taken place over the past several months in Manorhamilton, Lurganboy, Dromahair, Newtownmanor, Glenfarne, Kiltyclogher, Rossinver and Kinlough a community text alert system for the North Leitrim area will be officially launched in the Bee Park Community Centre on Thursday night (tonight) at 8pm.
When Thursday night’s text alert system takes place in Manorhamilton it will mean that the entire North Leitrim area will be protected by the system since the Drumkeerin text alert area has been in operation for sometime now.
The text alert system that will be started on Thursday night will be for the Manorhamilton, Mullies, Lurganboy, Glencar, Glenboy, Ballyboy, Rossinver, Kiltyclogher, Glenfarne, Newtownmanor, Killargue, Ballinagar, Dromahair, Askill, Kinlough, Tullaghan and Glenade districts.
The North Leitrim Community Development Network and the Leitrim County Community Forum have worked in conjunction with An Garda Siochána and Muintir na Tíre over recent months in the planning and establishment of the new North Leitrim text alert system.
Many people in the North Leitrim area have already signed up and paid their €5 fee to participate in the new North Leitrim text alert system. Anyone who would like sign up for the new text alert system can do so at Thursday night’s launch and afterwards at anytime he or she wishes.
Everyone is cordially invited to attend Thursday’s official launch of the new North Leitrim text alert system in the Bee Park Community Centre at 8pm . For all attending the launch refreshments will be served afterwards.
The Further Education and Awards Council FETAC Level 5 Childcare Certificate course that is being offered at the Ballagh Centre Rossinver and which provides a specialist qualification for those who want to work with young children continues.
The full award is called Early Childhood Care and Education certificate and a new module – Early Childhood Education and Play – will commence on Monday night, March 3 from 7pm to 10pm .
Although one module has been completed new participants are welcome to undertake the course subject to suitability. The course is funded through the Back to Education Initiative that is promoted by the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (ETB).

The Manorhamilton Area Community Games swimming competition finals will be held on Sunday, March 23 in Sligo Regional Sports Complex.
Registration for the finals will be between 4pm and 4.30pm with the races starting at 4.50pm sharp. There will be a number of different events on the day for boys and girls spanning the U8 to U16 age groups.
Competitors must live within the Manorhamilton Community Games area which includes Kiltyclogher, Glenfarne, Manorhamilton, Killargue, Dromahair, Newtownmanor, Glencar and Mullies
Two competitors will qualify from each individual event and go on to represent the Manorhamilton Area at the County Finals which will be held at the Aura Leisure Centre Carrick-on-Shannon, on Sunday, April 27.

Popular former nurse in Our Lady’s Hospital, Margaret McDermott will travel next week to Addis Abba in Ethiopia and work there for the rest of the month of March assisting with humanitarian projects in schools and orphanages.
Margaret will also be involved with providing food for the homeless and cancer care in the poverty stricken African country during her sojourn over the coming weeks.
Ms. McDermott has expressed sincere thanks to everyone that has supported her previous mercy missions to Ethiopia and she is looking forward to similar help for her forthcoming visit there. If you can help please contact Margaret, phone 086-8171559.
Fiver Friday (€5) runs every Friday in the Bee Park Community Centre from 10am to 2pm at Manorhamilton Farmers Market.
Each producer will carry a product or products for €5 that is undoubtedly very good value for money. This initiative is to encourage new customers to come to the Market and to shop locally every Friday in North Leitrim ’s main town and commercial centre.
Leitrim County Library Service is hosting a talk by Margaret Connolly entitled “World War 1 and North Leitrim ” in Manorhamilton Library on Friday night, March 7at 8pm .
The North Leitrim Great War lecture is being promoted by the Manorhamilton Historical Society. The Society AGM is on Tuesday, March 11 at 8pm in the Bee Park Community Centre.
Everyone is cordially invited to a general open meeting in Lurganboy Chapel of Ease on Tuesday night, March 4 at 7.30pm . Discussion at the meeting will take place about how this unique church can best serve the local community in the future.
