Good luck Catherine: The Family Resource Centre would like to take this opportunity to wish local woman Catherine Mc Carron the best of luck in the Rose of Tralee Festival taking place in Kerry in August. Catherine was one of the first group of young people involved in our afterschool programme away back in 1999 and even then it was obvious that Catherine was destined for success!

Congratulations Catherine - Our Donegal Rose: Congratulations and best wishes to local girl Catherine Mc Carron from St Eunan’s Terrace who is this year’s Donegal Rose and will represent Donegal in the International Rose of Tralee Festival in August. The Tidy Towns Committee, staff and supervisor are delighted with your achievement and look forward to seeing you represent our county in the Dome in Tralee later this year. We wish Catherine, her mother Margaret, her father John and all her family and friends all the best for the Rose of Tralee festival in Kerry this August. Raphoe will be cheering you on. God Bless and well done Catherine. We are all very pleased, proud and delighted for you.

Strabane Summer Jamm-Riverine: The Family Resource Centre’s Mural Project is nearing completion and our sincere thanks to Arts Facilitator, Bernie Wilson who in such a short time frame of 12 hours has gone a long way of capturing the work of the Centre from the years 2001-2011. Well done to all the young people from our Afterschool Programme and Youth Café who worked with Bernie on the mural. The mural project was part of the Alley Theatre, Strabane cross-border Summer Jamm-Riverine Arts Project, funded by the International Fund for Ireland. Please feel free to drop in and have a peek.

Furniture appeal: Now that the mural painting in the downstairs reception area is nearly complete the Family Resource Centre hopes to develop a ‘meet and greet’ area and is now seeking unwanted items of furniture (must be in good condition) such as 2-seater sofa, armchairs and a coffee table. Collection can be arranged if necessary. Please contact the Centre on 074 9145796 or 087 3641503.

Raphoe 5k: On Tuesday 16th July at 7.30pm the Family Resource Centre will hold its 3rd Annual 5k race in association with Lifford AC and Donegal Co. Athletics Board. The 5k, which is part of the Grand Prix Series costs €10 to enter with all proceeds re-invested into supporting the work of the Family Resource Centre.

The Centre is delighted that Coyle’s Centra, Raphoe have agreed to be the main sponsor for the race and our sincere thanks are due for this generous offer. Coyle’s Centra have been very consistent supporters of the work of the Family Resource Centre over many years. You can now pre-register for the race by emailing your name, club/organization (if any) and age category to raphoe5k@hotmail.co.uk and of course registration can take place on the night from 6.00pm onwards in the Family Resource Centre, William St, Raphoe. Changing facilities and showers will be available in the Deele College and we would like to thank Mr. Damian Mc Devitt for his support and cooperation with that.

Raphoe Walking Group: The Raphoe Walking Group meets every Thursday at 10.30am in the Family Resource Centre. Everyone welcome. This is a brilliant opportunity to get fit (ter) and meet new people in your Community.

Raphoe Tidy Towns: The application for the town has now been sent in to the Tidy Towns unit for this year’s competition. Judging is usually in June, July and early August.

A sincere thank you to everyone in the town for all your help in keeping your properties and gardens in good shape which in turn helps our town looking well.

The local residential groups, Tidy Towns committee and C.E staff are doing a great job in the different areas of the town which is a great help every year. You can help by putting out window boxes, hanging baskets from this week on. You can also help by painting, weeding & keeping your areas litter free. Last year the town received a silver medal and 297 points so hopefully we can gain a few extra points this year again. Good Luck Raphoe!

Good Luck to all students: Best wishes to all students who are sitting examinations this year. Raphoe has been a centre of education for many years with good schools and teachers here in our town. Long may that tradition continue to provide excellent learning and development for all our youth and children.

Raphoe Boxing Club: Everyone at the Raphoe boxing club would like to extend a very sincere thanks, to the following local scaffolding contractor Stephen Dolan who kindly sponsored the paint for the clubhouse, to former boxer John Sweeney who carried out the scaffolding around the clubhouse and to everyone at Donegal Local Development Company and the Tus project for all their help with the painting of the building. It is now hoped that the ground work inside the fence will be tarred in the not so distant future.

The club is now closed after a very busy season for the summer break and will re-open on Monday 2nd September when all new and former members are very welcome along for the new season.

Congratulations goes to local girl Catherine McCarron who has won a major heat of the Rose of Tralee and Catherine now goes through to represent Donegal in the Finals. Well done and good luck from everyone at the Boxing club.
