Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann Meenacross have returned to their summer session venue at Ionad Teampall Cróine, in Dungloe every Wednesday evening .
Building on their success last summer, they have been delivering tunes, recitations, song and dance since the beginning of June and hope to go on until the end of August. There is no entry charge but donations are greatfully accepted.
The Ionad is an intimate venue, which allows the audience great access to the music and to the musicians. The ‘house band’ usually consists of anything from twelve to fifteen local musicians. From time to time, there are visiting musicians, special guests, who perform with Comhaltas. Last year, of the many friends and guests who appeared with them, perhaps the most well known would have been Marcus Ó Murchú, the flute player from Belfast and Marian Coleman, the well known Box player from the famous Harper musical family from Castlefinn, and her daughter Susan. Only last week, Seamus Smith, the well known fiddler from Falcarragh joined in the tunes.
The music starts at 8.30pm sharp and continues through until approximately 9.30pm, when there is a short tea break and then goes on until 11pm or later if the music is really flowing!
