Ballybofey and the Twin Town are mourning the loss of one of the area’s oldest citizens with the sad passing of Nora McGowan, Dreenan, Ballybofey.

Nora, nee McMenamin who just turned 88 at the end of last year is the mother of Donegal GAA chairman P.J. McGowan and Noreen Doherty, former Donegal GAA secretary and current Donegal GAA Administrator.

She passed away peacefully at her home yesterday morning (Wednesday) after a short illness.

A popular and well respected person in the community she was predeceased by her husband Patrick, who died in 1997.

She is survived by her three son Paddy, P.J. and Noel and three daughters Mary, Noreen and Anne and by her two sisters Kathleen and Theresa and one brother Pat, grand-childern nephews and nieces.

Her remains are currently being waked at the family home before being moved to St. Mary’s Church, Sessiaghoneill, on Friday for 11 am requiem mass with her burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
