RNLI Killybegs and Donegal town merge

The Killybegs and Donegal Town branches of the RNLI are to be amalgamated to provide more effective support for the Lifeboats in the South West of the county.

A spokesperson said: “The Donegal Town branch raised €10,962 in last year and the RNLI has always received great support from the Killybegs area. To this end, the Donegal Town branch would like to extend a warm welcome to our supporters in Killybegs, Dunkineely, Kilcar, Carrick and Glen at our AGM tonight at 8pm in the Church of Ireland Parish Centre (opposite Donegal Castle).

“This is very much an amalgamation of resources and not a take over and it is proposed to hold a meeting in Killybegs as soon as possible, so it would be great to see people from the area at the Donegal AGM so that we can assess the level of support.”

The three Donegal lifeboats based in Arranmore, Bundoran and Lough Swilly saved 84 lives last year.
