Search is on in Donegal for the Post Office of the Future

The Irish Postmasters’ Union (IPU) and An Post have recently jointly launched the Post Office of the Future Competition.

The Irish Postmasters’ Union (IPU) and An Post have recently jointly launched the Post Office of the Future Competition.

Open to Letterkenny Institute of Technology Post Graduate students and other Institute of Technology Post Graduate students across the country, this competition aims to find innovative ideas for future Post Offices in both urban and rural locations. Two winning teams will be chosen with a whopping 5,000 prize for each victorious team.

Ireland is changing and with it, so is the Post Office. Post Offices are open for business and ambitious about the future, and anxious to find out what some of the brightest students in Donegal and across the country think the future holds for the Post Office network nationwide.

There are two categories to enter – the Rural Post Office or the Urban Post office, each with its own unique strengths, requirements and customer profiles. It is up to the entrants to create their vision for their chosen Post Office, from the design and layout, to business models and PR plans.

Brian McGann, Irish Postmasters’ Union General Secretary added, “We want creative yet practical ideas, and most importantly we want to know what do you want from your Post Office? The Post Office network serves 1.7 million customers every week, and we want to ensure that the Post Office has a sustainable future, still very much at the heart of Irish life and communities.”

John Daly, Director of Retail at An Post said, “We are delighted to be holding this challenging competition with the IPU. We are confident that students from a diverse range of courses and backgrounds together will create different visions for their future Post Office. It will be interesting to see what they come up with and give us another welcome perspective.”

The closing date for entries is March 23rd 2012. For further information, please find the Post Office of the Future on Facebook and Twitter. Information is also available on www.anpost.ie <http://www.anpost.ie> and www.postmasters.ie <http://www.postmasters.ie>

The winners will be announced at an event in May and notified prior to this.
