The village of Laghey which has for many years been famous for its quarry and in earlier years the loud blasts that could be heard across the bay in Mountcharles, is all set to make some noise again on St. Patrick’s Eve.
The Laghey Blast Festival Committee are presenting ‘Strictly Blast Style’ on Friday, March 16th at the Abbey Hotel, Donegal Town. Doors open at 7pm with the show starting at 8pm sharp.
With eight couples taking part from Laghey, Ballintra, Pettigo and Donegal town areas, this promises to be a great night of fun and entertainment in the Blast Style of the “Strictlys”.
The MC on the night is TV3 Showbiz correspondent Noel Cunningham with guest judges Margaret Carr Flynn, Ocean FM, Laura May Lenahan, winner of the All Ireland 2011 Karaoke, Jerome Hughes formerly of TV3 and Eddie McCaffrey last year’s winner of the Laghey Blast “Strictly Come Dancing”.
Rehearsals are well under way under the guidance of dance teacher Julieanne Murphy and tickets are now on sale at 10 euro which also includes late night entertainment by popular local band Rockhill Ramblers.
Tickets are on sale now from any committee member and the dancers, or at the following outlets: O’Carolan’s Dew Drop Inn, Kee’s of Laghey and at Abbey Hotel reception.
The dancers taking part on the night are, Elaine Rooney and Pauric Mundy, Jennifer McClay and Sean McGrory, Laura McCrea and Kieran McGrory, Grainne Gallagher and John McCafferty, Menie Martin and Aidy Britton, Laura Mangan and Lee Jordon, Breedge Haughey and Charlie Bonner and Deyna Walsh and Padraig Rooney.
Proceeds are in aid of the Laghey Blast Festival to be held on Saturday 5th and Sunday, May 6th. The Laghey Blast Festival is a community event and this will be the third year for such an event to be held in Laghey.
