A new film highlighting the best places to fish in south Donegal will be premiered at Solis Lough Eske Castle on Thursday, November 17th at 8pm.
The film, ‘The Blue Stack Mountains’ is the fourth in the series ‘Where to Fish in Ireland’ from German producer Dietrich Bohnhorst. He made the first film, ‘Where to Fish in Donegal’ six years ago, with support from FAS, and it ran on a number of foreign television stations, include a specialty fishing network in America. The other two films are about the best lakes for brown trout and the best rivers for brown trout.
This film, Dietrich says, “describes a journey from Glenties, through Commeen, Stranorlar, Ballybofey and back over Barnesmore Gap to Donegal town”. It highlights “about 40 lakes which lie in the Blue Stacks, how to get there and where to fish, what flies to use and so on.”
Dietrich has lived in Donegal since 1986 and has always been struck by what he describes as “an invisible line” regarding fishing in Ireland. “When you look at all the publicity and marketing at the trade fairs promoting angling in Ireland, it just seems to stop at Lough Melvin and the Drowse. There’s a black hole above that line. Donegal is definitely underpromoted.”
Everyone is warmly invited to the premiere and admission is free.
