Ballyshannon Town Councillor Brendan Travers has been appointed Peace Commissioner by Minister for Justice and Defence.

Ballyshannon Town Councillor Brendan Travers has been appointed Peace Commissioner by Minister for Justice and Defence.

Cllr. Travers got news of the honour this week.

He told the Donegal Democrat: “I believe that there was the demand for another Peace Commissioner in the town. There were a number of Peace Commissioners who passed away in recent years - Jim Keane and Gerry McNamara, both from The Rock - among them.”

He added: “I am quite proud to have been appointed Peace Commissioner. I see it as an extension of my role as town councillor.”
