People living in the area are very concerned at recent illegal dumping in the area and over last weekend observed a car driver stop on Tullymore Bridge and dump bags of refuse into the river.

“We will not tolerate seeing our area despoiled in this way” was the comment of one eyewitness who did not wish to be named. “In this most recent case we got the registration number of the silver car involved and are passing it on to the relevant Authorities. We hope there will be a prosecution. We would like to get the message out that this illegal dumping has to stop, that as residents we will be ever more vigilant and that where we identify people abusing the countryside and the great national resource that the Abbey River represents, we will report them with a view to prosecution. It is unbelievable that people behave in this way when there is so much emphasis on protecting our natural environment in this country”.
