omecoming U 16 Girls Basketball
The AVS U16 Girls Basketball team took part in the All-Ireland Basketball Final on Monday 25th January in the National Basketball Arena in Dublin and emerged victorious.
The school organised a homecoming for the team to acknowledge this great achievement. The homecoming took place at approx. 8.30 pm on Monday 25th and was a superb occasion for the team, their families and the school community.
Thanks to all those who turned out for the occasion.
English - 6th Years
Leaving Certificate students studying higher level English are attending a 'King Lear' revision session in Letterkenny in the coming days. As 'King Lear' is their single text, this should prove to be very beneficial for revision prior to their mock examination.
CSPE - 3rd Years
Third years held a Fairtrade awareness day last Thursday during lunchtime, where they displayed information about Fairtrade and sold Fairtrade products.
Congratulations to Roisin Feeney and Marie McGirr who were winners of the Fairtrade poster competition.
A special thank you to Conways for providing the products, Simple Simons and The Powder Room for sponsoring the prizes.
The itinerary for this year’s school tour to Barcelona is due to be finalised shortly and will then be available for preview on the tour website. Please check the website often for other updates.
Abbey Voactional School are planning a "Oíche Chúltúrtha" in commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising. This will be held on Friday, March 4 in the Bosco Centre. There are a variety of special guests and wonderful pieces planned for this event including musicians, story tellers, historians and more.
We are very excited about the imminent arrival of the Young Americans on the 29th January.
The weekend promises to be an unforgettable one for all involved, not only for those in the show, but those who go to see it.
If you wish to go to the show on Sunday, 31st January you can purchase tickets in the office for €10. The show will take place in the Bosco at 3.00pm.

Incoming First Years 2016: Calendar of Events
Primary School Visits – 2 Weeks of 25th Jan to 5th Feb 2016
OPEN EVENING – WEDNESDAY, February 10, - 5pm to 8pm
Enrolment Deadline – Friday, February 26.
Induction Day for 6th class pupils – Tuesday,March 1 (Approx. 9.30 to 2.15)
Information Evening for 6th class parents – Thursday, 10th March 10, 7-8pm.
Induction Day and Open Night
Tuesday, March 1 will be the Induction Day for 6th class pupils. There will be no school on that day for AVS First, TY and LCA students. 6th class students from the surrounding areas will visit the school during the day.
February 10 is our Open Night in the school and this will take place 5-8pm. All members of the community are invited to attend. We especially hope that all of our incoming students will attend with their parents. An adult must accompany all persons under 18.
Irish - Seó Bóthair don Gaeilge
TY and 5th Year students took part in the "Seó Bóthair don Gaeilge" on Wednesday, 20th January.
The Conradh na Gaelige Road Show is an interactive Irish Language Workshop. Through debate, discussion and games, the workshop aims to encourage and empower students to use their Irish more often outside of school.
Briary Gap Drama Festival
The very best of luck to our TY students who perform in the Briary Gap Drama Festival this week. This is an
All-Ireland Drama Competition. The students perfom their play written and directed by their teacher Mrs Breda Logue.
FAI Coaching Course
A group of TY's participated in the FAI KickStart 1 course last Tuesday, 18th January in Donegal Town FC's grounds. This course was run by Shane Barr and was a very beneficial workshop.
The AVS first year soccer team drew 2-2 this week with St. Columba's in the first year schools cup. The lads fell behind twice but drew level each time with goals from Alex McCalmont and Joe Leape.
U15 Boys Hurling
Training for the hurling team has now commenced and takes place at lunchtime on Wednesday's on the all-weather pitch. If anyone is interested in joining the team please contact Mr O'Neill.
U19 Boys Basketball - Playoffs
The boys progressed to the second round of playoffs in Cork on Sunday last.
The boys were narowly beaten in both games despite tremendous efffort they were just unlucky on the day. Congratulations to the boys on their excellent achievement.
A huge thank you to Daytona Transport for sponsoring the boys’ new tops and to their coach Jordan Carty and managers Patrice Rooney and Coramc Oates.
Senior Boys Gaelic
The boys are currently looking ahead to their Ulster Quarter Final which will take place sometime tomorrow, Friday, January 29. Their opponents will be the runners up of the Cavan vs Monaghan game. They have done extremely well to make it this far and we wish them the best of luck.
U19 Girls Basketball - Playoffs
The U19 girls traveled to Dundalk to participate in the All-Ireland playoffs on Saturday, 23rd January. The girls were unfortunate on the day but deserve huge congratulations on reaching this stage of the competition. Well done to them and their coach Ms Carr.
