Popular comedy Packie’s Wake opened in Derry’s Millennium Forum last night (Wednesday 12th) and runs there until Saturday. Equally popular country singer Michael English plays An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny tonight (Thursday 13th).

There’s more stand up comedy on Sunday 16th as Sean Lock performs his new show Keep It Light at The Millennium Forum, Derry. Also on Sunday Donegal chamber Orchestra celebrate their 10th anniversary with a concert at An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny.

There’s a screening of Mozarts Cosi Fan Tutte performed by The Royal Opera in The Playhouse, Derry next Monday (October 17th) and there’s a mixture of aerial acrobatics and fairy tales in The Millennium Forum on Tuesday morning.

Finally, on Wednesday, Irish music stalwarts Foster & Allen visit The Millennium Forum in Derry.

Damien Dempsey

One of Ireland’s premier live music acts Damien Dempsey has announced details of a November Irish tour that takes in two Donegal dates – The Balor in Ballybofey on Saturday November 19th and An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny the following night Sunday November 20th.

It’s amazing to think that it’s nearly 20 years ago that Damo made his first mark on the charts and airwaves with his 1997 single ‘Dublin Town’. A Dubliner singing about his own town in his own accent marked him out as something different from the pack of bands who all seemed to be trying to sound like U2.

Damien Dempsey plays The Balor Arts Centre, Ballybofey on Saturday November 19th and An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny on Sunday 20th. Tickets are €20 available from The Balor (0749131840 /www.balorartscentre.com) and An Grianan (0749120777 /www.angrianan.com)respectively.

Comedy Capers

There’s two excellent looking stand up comedy nights in the North West this weekend with Andrew Maxwell at An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny on Saturday night and Sean Locke playing The Millennium Forum in Derry on Sunday.

Andrew Maxwell was at the forefront of what I call the ‘Panel Period’ of Irish comedy – a golden era of sorts that coincided with RTE’s popular weekly topical comedy show hosted by Daire O Briain. Andrew Maxwell is at An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny this Saturday October 15th at 8pm. Tickets are €18 available from An Grianan on0749120777 or online at www.angrianan.com
