Unique art on the Diamond

Congratulations to Aishling Marie McGrory whose innovative art installation at The Diamond, Donegal Town has been turning heads in a big way.

The 4th year art student at Limerick School of Art and Design who is from Leghowney, brought her creativity with textiles to her home town this weekend, with a little help from a few friends including Callam McGrory, Daniel Stephen Brogan and Mc J Daniel.

The theme of Aishling's exhibition, entitled Focus, is, she explained, "how we all perceive things differently". Pieces include a four colour web which evokes a rainbow, an electric utility box vividly decked out in primary colours of electrical tape, brightly coloured filaments of yarn spinning out from the Four Masters Monument and more. Some of the pieces, such as the electrical box, leap out at you while others are almost invisible until you suddenly and magically notice them.

The exhibition was officially opened with a wine and cheese reception on Thursday night. Mark Craze came to the rescue when rain threatened to put a damper on the whole thing, by setting up a canopy for shelter.

A clearly delighted Aishling said on Saturday that she's overwhelmed at the response. “So many people have seen the works and their ractions have been amaxing. It's been beyond my imagination.”

The show continues today and will be dismantled on Monday, so, if you haven't seen it yet, wander on over to the Diamond and have a wee look.
