Rising Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) star, Joseph Duffy from Burtonport, has signed a deal with the sports biggest promotion company.
The Meenbanad man has been given a contract by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) based in the US.
Joseph had an impressive record in MMA before switching to pro-boxing for a short time where he also racked up an unbeaten winning streak.
Last year he returned to MMA and holds a record of 12-1 in the sport.
He has been much lauded for being the last person to defeat UFC title hopeful Conor McGregor when he forced the Dubliner into a submission defeat in just 38 seconds in 2010.
The Rosses man is now based in London and claimed two highly impressive victories in the Cage Warriors promotions in 2014.
On Wednesday it was announced that he has signed a deal with the UFC which he said was a “dream come true”.
“Going to the UFC is what I’ve been working towards for my whole life. It’s a dream come true. It’s not sinking in properly at the minute. I just can’t wait to get to work,” Duffy said after the announcement was made.
Meanwhile Conor McGregor is set to face Dennis Siver in Boston on January 18 and has been promised a world title shot against reigning champions Jose Aldo from Brazil if successful.
