Saturday evening saw Letterkenny based Triathlon club 24/7 bring their season to a close with their annual awards and presentation night in Arena 7. Close to 50 members attended the bash to celebrate what was another hugely successful year for this young club.

The club has several success stories to tell from throughout the year, including having three members finish in the top three in their respective age groups after the national series of races which ran form May to September with athletes completing at least 6 races 3 in each if the two race distances, the club was also represented at the World Triathlon Championships in China, the European Duathlon Championships in Limerick and the European Triathlon Championships in Spain where athletes performed very well and achieved good results in their respective age groups. The club also hosted its inaugural triathlon at Gartan Lake in August of this year and got a very positive response from all who came to take part in and support the event. This race will now be a yearly event and it is hoped to attract huge numbers to the area over the coming years.

On the night athletes that were rewarded for the efforts and performances throughout the year included, Aidan Callaghan (Most Improved Athlete), Padraig Mitchell (Masters Athlete of the Year), Bronagh O Gara (Female Duathlete of the Year), Micheal Black (Male Duathlete of the Year), Margaret Kelly (Female Triathlete of the Year), Alan Mitchell (Male Triathlete of the Year), and Adrian Wasson (Club Person of the Year).

The club is continuously recruiting new members and all training times and venues are on our website letterkenny247.com. The club aging has huge aspirations for the coming year which kicks off in February with the Duathlon season and then the really serious stuff in May time with the commencement of the national series again, and with the world championships being held in London in 2013 there is surely going to be huge competition for places between all members.

Finally the club would like to thank all our sponsors and everyone that has supported us in any way throughout the year especially our main club sponsors Optimal Fitness and Wasson’s Garage and our main race sponsor LK Bikes, without whom none of our success could be possible.
