Cora Rooney, Marlins Swim Club, was recently presented by Swim Ulster - The Elizabeth Long trophy - for the top performing 11-year-old girl at the 2016 Ulster Age Group Gala held earlier this year.
Previous winners of this award include athletes such as Conor Ferguson (17) and Danielle Hill (17), who have gone on to medal for Ireland at World and European competitions.
Cora (pictured), still only 11, is extremely focused and committed to honing and excelling at her swimming skills, in the pool at 6.30am for two hours prior to her school day, combined with strength and conditioning training and lining up with fellow Marlins National Squad swimmer, Mona McSharry with ease. No clearer will this be seen this weekend as Cora represents Marlins SC at the Irish Short Course Championships in Lisburn.
Cora proudly represented Holy Family National School, winning Gold twice at the Swim Ulster Schools Championship, therefore holding the honour of Ulster Schools' Champion 2016 and looks forward to similar glory at the Irish Schools National Championships in February 2017.
A bright future ahead for Cora and Marlins Swim Club, Ballyshannon
