Rachael Darragh to the fore in Dublin Autumn Open

The Magee badminton family from Raphoe dominated the Autumn Open tournament held at Whitehall, Dublin at the weekend.

In the Mixed Doubles: Joshua Magee and Rachel Darragh (2) from Raphoe took on Ciaran and Sinead Chambers (1) of Alpha BC. This was a great opener for the finals and it took 3 tight games to separate these pairs, with Joshua and Rachael taking the 3rd game to win the title - 22-20, 18-21, 21-16

Women's Doubles Final saw Rachael Darragh and Sara Boyle (1) versus Jennie King and Sinead Chambers (2). This time round Rachael and Sara proved to be too strong and took the match in 2 games, 21-15, 21-16

In the Women;s Singles final – we had the Ladies doubles wining pairing Sara Boyle (1) and Rachael Darragh (2) now facing each other; another 3 game tie with Rachael holding out to win 21-9, 14-21, 21-14 in what was Rachael’s 3rd final and win on the night – a truly remarkable achievement by Rachael.

The Mens Singles final was a fantastic 3 game tie between Nhat Nguyen (1) and Joshua Magee (2).

This was exhibition badminton of the highest standard, incredible long rallies as each vied for that winning shot. In the 3rd game, Nhat won 21-15, 14-21, 21-8.
