Donegal International Rally winner Manus Kelly is returning to action next month in the Bayview Hotel Marin Howley Memorial Harvest Rally.
The Glenswilly driver has confirmed that he will be once again be driving the Subaru S12B that he drove to win last June’s Donegal International.
“I’m delighted to have got the deal done and I’m excited about getting back into the car that proved so successful in the International,”Manus said earlier this week.
He was initially entered to drive Ford Escort Mark 11, but he confirmed at the weekend that he will be once again behind the wheel of the Melvan Evan Motorsport Subaru for the Killybegs based event.
The popular Donegal winner will have a new co-driver with Gareth Doherty replacing Donal Barrett to call the pace notes. Milford native Barrett has retired from rallying.
Meanwhile, ass the clock ticks towards the 2016 Bayview Hotel Martin Howley Memorial Harvest Stages Rally, entries for the event have soared past the 120 entrants mark.
With just 7 days until the closing date for entries, Wednesday 28th September, the organisers have continued to be busy with final preparations for this Killybegs based event.
When Saturday 8th October arrives, there will be the full spectacle of one of Ireland’s top National rallies, boasting a field of competitors comparable to any of the top International events on the island.
As the year progresses, the event will see a finale for the three rally championships, the Triton showers National Rally Championship, the Sligo Pallets Border Championship and the Donegal Commercials DMC Rally Championship. For many registered contenders, valuable points still have to be decided across the classes, at the conclusion of this event.
There is a call for marshals to attend the event and assist with the safe running of the stages on the day. Chief Marshal for the event is Francie Devine, who may be contacted on +447851084821 or +353876205328. Mr. Devine said, “we are getting calls from prospective marshals, but we need more to ensure the running of the event, both on and off the stages, e.g. service area. For new marshals, there will be a training session on Sunday 25th September, @ 2:30pm, in the Bayview Hotel, Killybegs. Please attend this important session, and learn how marshals are the lifeblood of motorsport events such as this. We welcome one and all!”
A spokesperson from the Bayview Hotel, Killybegs commented, “The Bayview Hotel is co-ordinating with other accommodation in Killybegs and reports brisk trade with the Rally HQ itself now booked out with a wait list. However there are places available in the town, which is gearing up for one of its busiest weekends of the year.”
