New boxing season ready to take off

It’s all systems go for the new Donegal boxing season after a long summer break.

The first action of the new season will be the Donegal Novice Championships in Letterkenny, on Sunday October 9th.

These championships are open to boxers from Donegal, Derry, Tyrone, Sligo and Leitrim.

The weigh-in will be from 9.30am to 11am and the draw will be at 12 noon, with boxing beginning at 1 pm.

The annual Donegal boxing awards night is being held on Saturday night, October 22nd, in the Central Hotel, Donegal Town.

Twenty six awards will be presented on the night. Tickets are keenly priced at €25 for a four course meal and dancing to The Workmates. Tickets are available from any of the county’s 18 boxing clubs.

Forthcoming tournaments include an event on Friday, October 21st, in the Halfway House, Burnfoot, run by Illies Golden Gloves.

Raphoe BC are staging a major tournament in Deele College, Raphoe, on Saturday, November 19th.

Meanwhile eleven boxers and seven officials from Donegal will travel to Philadelphia from November 2nd to November 8th for a tournament in Essington.
