Seamus Coleman returned from injury to captain the Republic of Ireland in Monday night's opening World Cup qualifier in Serbia.
A late header from Daryl Murphy earned Ireland a 2-2 draw in Belgrade.
Martin O'Neill's side went in front after only three minutes when Jeff Hendrick's deflected effort found the net.
Serbia however, turned the tie on its head with two goals in the space of six second half minutes, the second coming from the penalty spot.
The home side were the better side in the second half.
However, Murphy, on as a second half substitute, headed the equaliser on 81 minutes to give Ireland a precious point.
