Ward and Lowther points save St. Naul's

St Naul's came from behind with two late points to earn a draw with Carndonagh in this Group A game in Carndonagh on Saturday night.

Carndonagh . . . . . . 0-10

St Naul’s . . . . . . . . . . 0-10

Mark Ward and Cathal Lowther were the saviours as St Nauls came from 0-8 to 0-10 down with a little over five minutes remaining.

In what was a close contest throughout, Carndonagh led by a point 0-5 to 0-4 at half-time after coming from 0-3 to 0-1 down in the closing ten minutes of the opening half.

Stephen Griffin, who kicked six of St Naul’s total, converted two early frees and Ward, who had a good game at centre half-forward, kicked a fine point from play.

But the locals posted four unanswered points in the closing ten minutes of the half from Ryan Daveport (2), Ryan Kelly and Ritchie Cunningham.

Griffin pulled one back for the visitors on the stroke of half-time.

St Naul’s again enjoyed a good start to the second half and led 0-7 to 0-6 courtesy of Griffin (2) and Ward.

But again the locals posted four points to one to lead 0-10 to 0-8 by the 56th minute.

In a grandstand finish Ward and Lowther did the business to earn the share of the points.

The draw leaves St. Naul's in a strong position to reach the quarter-finals.
