Ciaran McGonagle, second in last year's Donegal Marathon, went one better on Sunday when he was the overall winner of yesterday's race.
The Rosses AC man clocked a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes and 13 seconds to claim the victory ahead of Conor Robinson who ran 2.51.51.
Letterkenny's Catriona Jennings, running for Rathfarnham AC, was third overall and first female athlete home.
Catriona, who ran for Ireland in the women's marathon at the London Olympics in 2012, is planning to run the Dublin Marathon in October.
And just to round off a memorable day for the Jennings family, her sister Sinead was first female athlete in the half marathon.
Sinead, fresh from her fantastic performances at the Olympics in Rio, has been home in Donegal since Thursday.
She hadn't planned to run on Sunday, but she showed her class by winning her category in 1.23.40.
The Half Marathon was won by Pauric Breslin of Letterkenny AC in 1.15.24.
Gavin Crawford of Letterkenny 24/7 Triathlon club, maintained his excellent recent form by finishing second in 1.17.18 while Michael Black was third in 1.17.39.
Monica McGranaghan of Letterkenny AC was second female athlete after Sinead Jennings. She ran a time of 1.33.36 and was just ahead of her club colleague Marie Boyle who ran 1.34.07.
