Kilcar took a big step to getting their hands on the Democrat Cup with a big win over their nearest rivals, Gaoth Dobhair, in Towney

A Ryan McHugh goal on 13 minutes was the difference between the teams for the first half. Odhrán Mac Niallais hit six first half points (three frees) for Gaoth Dobhair while Kevin Cassidy, Eamon McGee also got on the scoreboard late in the half.
The Kilcar goal came after a one-two between McHugh and Darragh O'Donnell, with McHugh palming to the net.
The Kilcar points came from Ryan McHugh, Conor Doherty, Stephen McBrearty, Ciaran McGinley, Michael Hegarty, Andrew McClean and Patrick McBrearty.
The game was put to bed inside four minutes of the restart when Kilcar hit 1-2 in quick succession, points from Ryan McHugh and Conor Doherty and a goal from Patrick McBrearty.
The second goal was also palmed to the net with Ryan McHugh and Ciaran McGinley creating the chance for McBrearty.
They continued to make the scoreboard tick with Darragh O'Donnell, Conor Doherty and two from Patrick McBrearty which had them 2-13 to 0-10 ahead after 47 minues, Mac Niallais again on target for the losers.
There was no way back for Gaoth Dobhair as Stephen McBrearty added another point on 53 minutes and big brother Patrick added a free before the end.
The win lifts Kilcar two points clear of Gaoth Dobhair at the top of the table and three ahead of Naomh Conaill, who play St. Eunan's tomorrow (Saturday) evening.
