All roads lead to Athlone this weekend where the 49th Community Games National Finals will be held.
Over 600 areas from throughout Ireland will compete in over 40 sporting and cultural activities with their main aim to win an All-Ireland medal. Remembering that we have four former Community Games members competing in the Olympics, Mark English, Sinead Jennings, Brendan Boyce and Chloe Magee and who knows we may have another star in the making after this weekend.
National President Gerry Davenport will hoist the Community Games flag on Friday afternoon with all the competitors present and a member is selected to light the flame which will burn over the two weekends.
A wide range of activities will also take place for children not involved in the Games so it should be a very enjoyable weekend for all. The best of luck to all our competitors and managers.
The departure bus times for both weekends are, leaving Tesco car park, Letterkenny at 10am Friday 12th and 19th August and returning on Sunday evening. All resident managers and competitors are reminded to bring pillow and sleeping bag.
The dates for the Finals are as follows,12-14th August: Soccer, Art, Handwriting, M/Making, Swimming, Solo Music, Group Music, Solo Singing, Mixed Distance Relays, Cycling, Futsal, Quiz, Chess, Draughts, Pitch/Putt, Table Tennis and Talent.
19-21st August: Athletics (track and field), Long Puck, Gymnastics, Solo Dance, Group Dance, Solo Recitation, Talent and Basketball.
Great credit must go to all managers and volunteers who have prepared the competitors for the finals. All managers and youth workers attending the National Finals are reminded that they must be Garda vetted.
The cost of attending the finals is Resident, €130 (includes transport, meals, and accommodation), Non-Resident €30. All monies must be paid before travelling.
