The new Donegal League season kicks into action next weekend with the opening series of fixtures in the Brian McCormick Sports Cup.

Milford United, who beat Castlefinn Celtic in the cup final back on the last Sunday in May, will begin the defence of their title with a home game against newly promoted Lagan Harps.

It’s one of the stand-out ties from next Sunday’s opening day of cup fixtures.

The action in the Brian McCormick Sports Cup will continue over the following two Sundays, August 21st and 28th and then the league proper will start on Sunday, September 4th.

Teams playing in the Saturday League will begin their season with the Voodoo Venue Cup, starting on Saturday, August 20th.

The Saturday League programme starts the following weekend, August 27th

Next Sunday’s games in the Brian McCormick Cup are played on an area basis so there are some mouth-watering local derbies fixtured.

Drumkeen United, back playing in the Sunday league under new manager, Sam Hegarty, mark their return to this competition with a home match against Whitestrand United.

Glenea United were one of the beaten semi-finalists last season having won their Area Final.

They lost out to Castlefinn Celtic in their semi-final tie and start their new season with a tricky assignment against Kilmacrennan Celtic.

St. Catherine's, the other beaten semi-finalists last year, are at home to Dunkineely,

Drumoghill FC, winners of the Premier Division, also have home advantage against Bonagee United.

And Erne Wanderers, newly promoted after winning the CT Ball Division title, host Copany Rovers.
