An annual golf classic was held at Letterkenny golf club recently in aid of Crumlin Hospital medical research foundation.
It was the 7th annual golf classic in aid of the Crumlin Children’s Hospital run by Fintan Houston of FM Cleaning Services which was the main sponsor.
Despite the inclement weather when there was a downpour from the heavens, 51 teams braved the elements.
Indeed taking the conditions into account the course held its own and some fine scoring was achieved by the winners.
The day was generously sponsored by five primary sponsors: Divers Hyundai, Marley Coaches, Duffy Freight, Greenes Shoes and Bizz Print. Many thanks to all the other associated sponsors (too many to mention) whose generosity on the day was greatly appreciated.
The day produced some very fine scoring. Well done to Dermot Rainey having an eagle at the 3rd hole (par4) with a fantastic drive and a 9 iron dropped the ball into the cup.
There were 7 winning teams on the day - congratulations to you all. 1st prize went to Dessie Shiels' team with the winning score of 90pts, runners up were Axis Plant team with 89pts, 3rd place went to Farm Flo team with a score of 88pts (bot) 4th was won by Duffy Freight team with 88pts, 5th place went to T.C Quinn team with 87pts (bot) 6th place was won by a mixed team sponsored by Jim Mulcahy and last but not least the 7th place went to an all ladies team sponsored by Liam Wiseman.
Well done everyone and Fintan would like to acknowledge the contribution of Letterkenny golf club, grounds staff directed by ohn Neely, Commination Networks who filmed all the par 3’s except the 13th which was filmed by Donegal TV, all that helped in the shop and later on at the prize giving, which was presided over by Letterkenny Golf Clubs Captain Ivan Fuery and Mrs Annette Bonner on behalf of FM Cleaning Services.
Apologies were received from Mr Alan Higgins of CMRF (chief coordinator of fund raising golf classics) who was unable to attend on the night. A great night was had by all and believe it or not next year’s classic is already being planned by the intrepid Fintan for early July 2017.
