Donegal finally got the better of Monaghan with a one point win in the semi-final replay, 0-17 to 2-10, but the margin flattered Monaghan.

Donegal dominated the opening half but only led by 0-10 to 2-2 at the break, thanks to the concession of two sloppy goals, one of them a penalty.

In the second half Martin O'Reilly again stepped up to the mark and captain Michael Murphy also led by example as Donegal pulled three clear, but they had to sweat at the end as Monaghan got the margin down to the minimum in added times.

Scorers - Donegal: Michael Murphy 0-5, 4f, 45; Patrick McBrearty 0-4,3f; Martin O'Reilly 0-3; Frank McGlynn, Rory Kavanagh, Anthony Thompson, Martin McElhinney, Mark McHugh 0-1 each.

Monaghan: Conor McManus 1-4,pen,1f,45; Shane Carey 1-1; Jack McCarron 0-2; Conor Boyle, Owen Duffy, Colin Walshe 0-1 each
