Good wins for Convoy and Na Rossa in Division 4

St Mary’s pip Moville

St Mary’s pulled off something of a surprise win over table toppers Moville on Sunday in Convoy.

St Mary’s 1-9

Moville 1-8

Moville, who only lost once before yesterday, had the better of the first half exchanges and led 1-6 to 0-5 at half-time. Dylan Doherty scored the goal before half-time while Nigel McMonagle, Malachy McDermott - who was outstanding throughout - Ciaran Diver and Tony McCleneghan scored the first half Moville points.

Simon McGlynn (2), James A Kee and Anthony Browne (2) hit the target for the locals in the opening half hour. A quickfire Simon McGlynn goal and point on the resumption tied up the game and it was nip and tuck from then until the finish with Laurence McMullan, Benny Bonner and Peter Blake scoring for St Mary’s and Doherty and Ciaran Diver responding for Moville.

Comfortable win for Na Rossa

Na Rossa travelled to Muff on Friday evening where they bested their hosts by 0-14 to 0-7 after a fairly lacklustre affair.

Na Rossa started strongly pressing into the Muff half and were 4 point ups before Muff recorded their first score on 15 minutes. Na Rossa seemed to have acres of space to play in and plenty of time on the ball right throughout the field and by half-time were 0-8 to 0-1 ahead.

The second half saw Muff rally and they opened with two unanswered points before Oran Molloy scored an excellent point under pressure. Two more points from play helped Muff work their way back into the game and the gap was down to 4 points with 15 minutes to go. However JP McCready’s almost unerring place kicking kept the scores ticking over for Na Rossa and the game ended 0-7 to 0-14. One yellow and one black for each side. Naomh Padraig have a lot of work to do if they are to stay in contention at the top of the table.
