DONEGAL RALLY: Jennings out as first three stages are complete

The big news on Day One of the Joule Donegal International Rally is the departure of reigning champions Garry Jennings and Rory Kennedy from this year's event.

The popular duo came off the first stage of Trentagh on Friday afternoon with engine trouble in their Subaru WRC, bringing a premature end to their hopes of retaining their Donegal crown.

It means huge disappointment for Jennings and Kennedy, but it opens the way for their rivals to take advantage.

Friday's second stage was at Letterleague with the third stage at Corradooey near Convoy, after which Declan and Brian Boyle, in a Ford Fiesta WRC, were the unofficial leaders by just over a second from from Donagh Kelly and Conor Foley (Ford Focus WRC).

Manus Kelly and Donal Barrett in a Subaru S12 were third.

In the National Category, Brian Brogan and Damian McGettigan led the way by almost three seconds from Damian Tourish and Donal McAlaney.

The cars headed to service before tackling the three stages again.
