Ciaran McMonagle from Rosses AC was third in yesterday’s SSE Airtricity Walled Marathon in Derry yesterday.
In sweltering conditions, McMonagle was the first Irishman home in a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes and 24 seconds.
The race was won by Kenyan athlete, Eric Keoch in 2:23:47 who matched strides with Project Africa runner, San Tanui, for the most part before getting up to break the tape after a sprint finish - his official winning margin was 0.3 second.
2008 Olympian and 2015 winner, Pauline Curley from Tullamore was first woman home in a new course record of 2:47:23 - she clipped six seconds off her time from last year.
Hannah Oldroyd (Saltaire Striders) was second in 2:56:19, with Lifford-Strabane AC’s Claire McGuigan’s third in 3:07:16.
