Mr David Kelly our Club President will hold his big day on Saturday, 11th June. We would ask all members to make the effort to play on the day to support one of the most popular members of the club.

On the club team front we had mixed results over the last few weeks. Our mixed Foursomes, Junior Cup, Jimmy Bruen and Pierce Purcell teams made their exit just finishing a few strokes behind the fourth placed teams.

The Minor League team had a very good result in Ballyliffin, taking two and a half matches with the home leg to come. Also the Ulster Fourball team are still in the competition and play this week against Donegal.

As was stated a few weeks ago, our new website will be up and running maybe by the time you read these notes so once again the club are keeping up with trend of most big clubs and progressing forward.

During the week, teams were again in action with the Junior Cup team narrowly missing out in qualifying in Castlehume.

The Minor League campaign continues against Otway and their home leg on Saturday was very tightly contested with Donegal taking the advantage of a 3:2 win into the next leg.

The Ulster Cup team played in Greenacres G.C. and secured a solid 3 matches away so it is all to play for in the return leg this Saturday where the home experts (under no pressure) are called to action. Good Luck to all.

Letterkenny

The Wednesday 25th Open, kindly sponsored by The Kitchen, Letterkenny, recorded a large entry and taking the top prize was Ciaran Haran [12] with 43pts. Just one point adrift in second place was Shane Scanlan [8] who, despite starting with a 'blank' at Hall Door [1st] proceeded to record a level par score from 2nd thru 18th for 42pts. overall. In third place was the ever present Kevin Hensey [13] who had an eagle three at the par five 18th where he played a driver and nine iron to the hole to finish on 41pts. Gross prize was won by Kevin Hannigan [6] with 33 gross points.

Friday 27th Open was won by David McComiskey [15] with 35pts.

Sunday 29th Open, sponsored by C & M Embroidery [Cathal Sheridan], was won by new season member and cat 4 prodigy Richard Spratt [28] with 41pts. Playing steady, handicap golf, Richard's pars gave him those extra points needed to keep juvenile prospect Lee Walsh [14] in runner-up spot. His 39pts relegated veteran member Tommy Daly [19] to third on B.O.T. With Tommy scoring 23pts on front nine with the help of a birdie at The Isle [7th], a win looked a possibility but no doubt that 'blank' at Aughaninshin [17th] had him lose out on top spot.

Cat 4 members are growing like the summer flowers with over 20 turning out on Monday night to see Richard Spratt completing the double with his second win with 28pts and B.O.T. over Garvin Mc Cahey, also 28pts, over 13 holes.

Entry sheets for the mixed doubles matchplay are now in the men's and ladies locker rooms. Draw to be made over first week in June.

Best of luck to the Eamonn O' Carroll-led Ulster Cup team who play their home leg on Sunday 5th following their first leg defeat of 5 matches to two away to Hollywood GC, and also to the club's Ulster Fourball team playing in Royal Co. Down v Mourne GC.

Congratulations to Seamus Patton and Maureen Haran on winning the McDonald's sponsored club Mixed Foursomes [2015] and also to club member Kevin Hensey on reaching the semi-final of the All Ireland Pairs Matchplay Championship with his playing partner Joe.

Ballybofey and Stranorlar

With the sunshine doing its best to make it feel like summer this last week or so, the fairways of Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club have been chockerblock with happy faces, colourful clothes, short sleeves and even the odd player with their tailored shorts.

With the course in excellent condition and our greens getting rave reviews, it's no wonder so many people want to play this little gem. So, if you are local , why not come along and enjoy what's on your own doorstep. Dont forget - you can play in our Tuesday Open up until 4pm (reserved for members after 4pm) for only €15.

Team news: I didnt get reports from all our team captains this week.

Joe Henderson had a tough task on Friday night at Ballybofey/Stranorlar when his Donegal Senior side took on Narin/Portnoo. The format for this competition is 4BBB and the home side have taken three matches from a possible five. Talking to Team Captain Joe after, he told me that although next Friday's leg is away, he thinks that the quality of players in his side should get the required matches to progress to the next round.

The B&S All-Ireland Fourball team had a very good result in the first leg of their third round match against Moyola coming out with four matches.

Our Junior Cup team, under the guidance of Barry McMenamin, had a great result qualifying in second spot at the weekend in Strabane.

Results: A big thank you to Lafferty Transport who were our weekend sponsors.
