Leitir folk off to Wembley for Carl's big day

Carl McHugh will see a few familiar faces in the crowd when Plymouth Argyle run out at Wembley for Monday's English League 2 play-off final with AFC Wimbledon.

Carl's parents, Gerry and Mary, their son, Aidan, and Aidan's girfriend Orla Kelly, are travelling over to London for the big game.

Carl's brother and sister, Adam and Shannon will watch from home as they are studying for their Leaving Certificate examinations, while his other sister Nicole lives in Dublin.

But as Gerry explained yesterday, there will be many more Donegal people in London who'll be among the crowd of 50,000 on Monday.

“Half of Leitir are living in London as it is, and I know a fair number of people are going to the game too,” Gerry said.

“It promises to be another brilliant occasion and we're really looking forward to it.”

He might still be only 23, but it'll be Carl's third match at Wembley.

He played for Bradford in the 2014 Carling Cup final and was an unused substitute when they beat Northampton Town in that season's League Two play-off final.
