Donna Barr for World Boxing Championships

Twin Towns BC boxer, Donna Barr, will fly out to Kazakhstan as part of the Irish team taking part in the World Women’s Boxing Championships.

A native of Strabane, Donna was controversially defeated in the Irish Elite finals, but got the call over Lauren Hogan, St. Bridget’s, Edenderry, her opponent in the Irish final.

Donna has been training with the Irish High Performance panel since January, sparring with among others, Hogan. She was selected as part of the Irish panel which recently travelled to Sheffield, England to train with the GB High Performance team along with boxers from France, Germany, Sweden.

Then on Saturday last she was informed that she had been selected on the Irish team for the World Championships, a major achievement for Donna.

She flies out on Friday for a week’s training and then the World Championships begin the following weekend.

So far in her short career at Twin Towns Boxing Club, just four years, she has won three national titles - Novice, U-21 and Intermediate and has represented Ireland against Poland.

Everyone at the Twin Towns BC wish her well and fingers are crossed that she comes home with a medal.
