Carl McHugh named Plymouth Herald Player of Year

Lettermacaward's Carl McHugh has been chosen by readers of The Plymouth Herald as Plymouth Argyle's Player of the Year for 2015/16.

More than 1,100 people took part in our online poll and from a list of six contenders McHugh received 37 per cent of the vote.

Graham Carey was a close second to McHugh on 34 per cent while captain Curtis Nelson came third on 15 per cent.

McHugh was presented with The Herald trophy by football editor Chris Errington shortly before the kick-off of Argyle's game against Hartlepool United at Home Park on Saturday.

The 23-year-old has mainly been used in a midfield holding role by manager Derek Adams this season after previously playing in defence.

McHugh, who has been troubledby injury in the last couple of months, will now hope to help his club gain promotion as they take part in the Division 2 play-off semi-finals.

Plymouth play Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Thursday with the home leg on Sunday next.
