There was rally success for Donagh Kelly at the Cartel.ie Rally of the Lakes Rally in Killarney at the weekend as he came from behind on Saturday to clinch victory on Sunday's stages.
It was the second time for Kelly (pictured right) , who had Conor Foley on the pace notes, winning the event, but the Donegal man admitted he was glad to get the car over the finish line, such was the difficulty of the event.
He had been trading second place with Alastair Fisher throughout Saturday as Garry Jennings and Rory Kennedy went into an early lead.
But it all changed on Sunday morning when Jennings ran into trouble on the Moll's Gap stage and Kelly took 16 seconds out of the Fermanagh man to take the lead. When Jennings crashed out of the rally on the next stage, Kelly was left ahead and he managed to maintain the advantage to the finish.
"We had a great event. We got it together this morning (Sunday). It was comfortable in the end after a big push. Unfortunately Garry Jennings went off the road which left the whole thing a lot easier," said Kelly.
Co-driver Paddy Robinson from Kilmacrennan along with Cork pilot David Guest were winners of the Group N by a staggering seven and a half minutes despite car damage.
