What's happpening around the GAA clubs of Donegal

These are busy times on the GAA scene in the county with plenty of action in the All County Leagues as well as at minor board level.

Of course, as always, there's loads happening off the pitch as well.

Here's a round-up from Donegal's GAA clubs.

The U14 Boys lost to Convoy on Monday last the 11th of April.

The senior ladies had another great victory on Sunday last when they beat St Eunan’s at home in the shield. The final score was Glenfin 3-12 St Eunan’s 3-5. Glenfin scores were Colene McGrath 1-2., Yvonne McMonagle 2-5, Katie Heron, Aine Ward, Kathy Ward, Laura McKenna and Mary Ward 0-1 each.

The third team lost to St Eunan’s at home on Saturday evening last.

The seniors and reserves had two great victories at home to Cloughaneely on Sunday.


Malin seniors were beaten at the weekend on a scoreline by Four Masters and they beat Buncrana on Tuesday night in the semi-final of the Tom Farren Memorial Cup. They now face Burt in the final, see facebook and local press for fixture details.

The Club will host a Curry Night Club Fundraiser on Saturday 23rd April upstairs in the Clubhouse.

The minors match against St Eunan’s B was conceded by St. Eunan’s last week. The under 16’s beat Carndonagh last Friday on a scoreline of Malin 3-7 Carndonagh 1-12.


Both senior men teams recorded comfortable wins over St. Nau’ls on Sunday afternoon in Mac Cumhaill Park.

In their first outing of the year a depleted third team produced a determined display against an extremely strong Glenswilly side. They battled well and never lay down and kept battling right until the final whistle. This was a learning experience for the third team players and management, and a lot of positives will be taken from this game. Glenswilly 0- 12 Seán Mac Cumhaills 0-3.

The under-14 ladies had their first game of the league campaign with an away game to play Four Masters on Sunday morning after our first game against Ardara was postponed due to the weather. In breezy conditions the girls went in a goal up at half time in their favour and continued to battle hard in the second hard but with the extra competitive game time behind them their opponents had just enough to tip the scales in their favour. The girls lost out in the end unfortunately by a late goal.

There was no winner of this week's Lotto. The numbers drawn were 1, 4, 5 and 9. There were two match 3 winners: Sabrina McGahern and Angela Crawford who each receive €75 each. This week’s jackpot is a massive €9,900 and John Lillis team is selling.


The Peter McGlynn U-13 tournament is on Saturday (April 23 rd) in Greenford, throw-in 10.30 am. There will also be a Blitz for U6, U8 & U10’s running alongside this Tournament. All TCG Players are requested to wear their club tops.

Buncrana were back to winning ways this Sunday with a win over Naomh Colmcille.

Buncrana GAA are delighted to announce that they have joined with iCARE and will run a charity Bingo on 5th May 2016 at the Plaza.

The minors played St Michael’s away last Wednesday night in the Northern Board quarter- final. They lost 3-9 to 0-7.

The senior ladies travelled to take on a strong Moville, despite a big effort from everyone they fell short against a full strength team.


The seniors and reserves got back to winning ways with two good victories in Glenswilly.

The minors had a great 3-13 to 1-7 victory away to Naomh Ultan last week andthe Under 14s had a big win in Bundoran on Wednesday last while the match against Four Masters B was postponed.

Gaelic4girls this Thursday in Towney from 6-7pm, it for girls from 8-12 years and a sample of a training session for girls with their coaches It introduces girls to football in a fun environment and participants get a G4G T shirt and certificate on complication. There was no winner of the Club Lotto Jackpot so next week’s Jackpot is €4,200 this week’s numbers were: 1, 14, 22 and 25 . The winners were: €50- Brid McCallig, Beaugreen, Dunkineely, €30 -Piaras Hugh Saoirse, Doire Leadha, €20 Noel Kennedy, Towney and Emma Cunningham.


The senior ladies travelled to Fr Tierney Park in Ballyshannon on Sunday morning for the second game of the Senior Ladies Shield competition. They played with great spirit and character, refusing to wilt under the strong opposition, putting in an impressive hour’s football. The final score was 2-12 to 1-7 in favour of the home side. Four Masters were well served by Casey Harvey, Claire Brady, Eilish McGovern, Kate Smith, Damaris Scott and Eva Diver.

Well done to Thomas McGowan (U17) and Aaron McCrea (Minors) who helped Donegal U17 and Minors reach the Ulster League final’s on Saturday.

Congratulations to Gareth Britton who was the winner of the Seniors and Reserves fundraiser run over recent weeks. Gareth predicted that J. Speith, H. Matsuyama and D. Willett would have the highest combined score in the U.S. Masters golf tournament ,which they did with a total of -7. Gareth's prize is €200 euros.

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot €600 in week 40 of the 2015/16 season draw held in the Abbey Hotel on Monday the18th of April. The €25 winners in the lucky dip were Paddy Gildea, Upper Main Street, Joe O’Grady, Edrim Glebe, John Begley , the Diamond, and Edith Kelly, Maldon House. The numbers drawn were 11, 12, 16 and 23.

Congratulations to Paul Murphy and Cian McEniff who played no small part in Donegal’s win over Monaghan in the McGuigan Cup Semi Final on Saturday last.The Realt lads both scored goals and now look forward to playing Tyrone in the final next weekend. Also good luck to Realts Brian McHenry who plays his club hurling with neighbours Aodh Ruadh who will also play in an Ulster Minor Hurling final next weekend.

The ladies of Realt Rua had another impressive outing on Sunday last when they defeated Four Masters 2-14 1-4.The U14 girls were defeated by Naomh Conaill in the league at home on Monday.

There was no reserve fixture last weekend but a severely depleted senior squad gave a good account of themselves going down by five points away to St Michaels .One pleasing aspect of the game was two of our young minors Timmy Govorov and Niall Carr came of the bench to both score second half goals.

The seniors and reserves were away to Naomh Conaill in Glenties. The reserves had a comprehensive win on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-08. The two goals came in the second half from James and Shaun Boyle. The seniors lost.

A big congratulations to our Donegal Minors Mark Curran and Ryan Connors on their win over Monaghan at the weekend, setting them up for a final V Tyrone this weekend.

Also to the Donegal U17s on reaching the Ulster Final with Shaun McGee representing the club. We wish all three the best of luck in their respective fixtures this weekend.

A fantastic event was held in Maghery to raise awareness and funds for the Irish Cancer Society this weekend. Dungloe played St Eunan’s in a 7 a side hurling match. Thanks to Paddy Flood of St Eunan’s for organising a gang of lads to come over to participate.It was a fantastic event and from all at CLG An Clochán Liath we wish to congratulate clubman Davy McCarron and to all involved who made the weekend possible.

Well done to our minor team on winning the Northern Board Division Two League quarter final last week against Glenswilly; in what was a highly entertaining encounter. It was quite a low scoring first half with the score 0-3 to 0-2 leading up to the half time whistle. Ciaran McFadden and Michael McHugh (2) scoring the Cloughaneely points. Ciaran McFadden, who had an outstanding game scored a goal to send Cloughaneely in 1-3 to 0-2 at halftime. Cloughaneely were the stronger side in the second half with Jason McGee and Ciaran McFadden adding further points. A strong performance from Michael McHugh saw him rewarded with a goal in the 21st minute. Glenswilly were awarded a penalty in injury time which brought them within two points of Cloughaneely. However, a further point from Ciaran McFadden stretched the difference out to three points just before the full time whistle.

U16s boys lost out to Letterkenny Gaels last Friday evening by the narrowest of margins 3-8 to 2-10. A very tough night for football and all the lads did extremely well under the tough conditions.

Well done to the girls who beat Naomh Muire last week 8-3 to 3-8. On behalf of all at the club we would like to welcome our latest recruit to the fold, Blaine Mulligan, who transferred from Melvin Gaels. Blaine is no stranger to the parish with his mother hailing from Ballyboes.


Comhghairdeas do na Cailini sinsear. They had a great win on Sunday morning against Cloich Cheann Fhaola in their first league match of the year.

Reserves also had a good win against Na Cealla Beaga however, our seniors were defeated.

This week's winning lotto numbers were 5, 16, 18, 21. We had three match 3 winners: Maureen Sharkey (Belcruit), Sheila Martin (Annagry) and Anne Boyle (Barney's Brae, Annagry). Next weeks jackpot is €1640.

We would like to thank Kathleen McGinley for her years of service to our weekly lotto. Kathleen sold her last ticket this week after being with us since day one we would like to wish her health and happiness for the future.

The 23rd April has been confirmed and booked as the date to run our

First-Aid course. 9.30am to 3.30pm. This course is for team coaches only.

This week's Kilotto numbers were 3,7,14,22 There was no Jackpot winner. Next weeks jackpot is €6,600. There were three match 3 winners, Willie Tully, Pat Conaghan ESB and James McGuinness Largy. Each win €20.

The u12 girls had a great win away to Ardara on Wednesday.

Hard luck to our under 14 boys team who were defeated 4-8 to 4-6. The boys put on a tremendous display and were unfortunate to lose out to a last minute penalty goal.

Congrats to Shaun, Michael and Jack, who along with their team won the Ulster semi-final and now advance to the Ulster final.

After an unfortunate reserve defeat in the Banks on Sunday things prospered for the seniors as they got their first two points of the league. The ladies lost to Dungloe on Sunday morning.


The seniors were at home to Bundoran on Sunday last at the Bridge and they recorded a good victory win.

Congratulations to Geraldine O’Donnell and Orla, Ards, Creeslough who won the €3200 Jackpot in the Mini Lotto on Sunday night last. The numbers drawn were 1,3,6,7,8,10. This weeks Jackpot be €2000. The winning ticket was a €5 quick pick was sold at the bingo.

Well done to Odhran McFadden and Ciaran McGinley who were part of the Donegal minor team that reached the Ulster Minor League final last weekend.

The Club played host to the county hurling team on Saturday last at the Bridge.

The U14s lost to Gaoth Dobhair at home last Monday evening. Overall they put in a better display than the previous few games and the team continues to get better.

The minors played at home to Buncrana last Wednesday evening at the Bridge. The Bridgemen had a comfortable win on a scoreline of 3-9 to 0-6. They had an excellent first half, but had a poor second half display.

The Parish League continues this Sunday at the Bridge from 1.30pm until 3pm. We still need volunteers please with refereeing and coaching .Any donations of home baking or sandwiches would be greatly appreciated.


The senior footballers made it three wins on the trot with a convincing 14 point victory in Downings to remain joint top of Division Three with a game in hand on fellow table toppers Buncrana.

With Naomh Ultan conceding their game, the minors will finally return to competitive action next Monday, 25th April, when they face Four Masters in Donegal Town.

The under 14s remain joint top of the division one table after their 3-7 to 2-6 victory over Dungloe on Monday evening. The wind was a factor and Aodh Ruadh played against it in the first half as a strong, rugged Dungloe outfit made the most of the elements. They went in trailing by 1-3 to 2-6, Jake Foley on the mark for the homesters' goal. Ballyshannon kept the visitors scoreless in the second half, but it took most of the half for the Ernesiders to eat their way through the Dungloe lead with Aodh Ruadh only getting ahead in the last five minutes. Most of Aodh Ruadh's best displays came in the rearguard, starting with Matt Gillespie between the sticks who was once again magnificent. Full back Kyle Murray was an assured presence as were the half back pairing of Eugene Doherty and Colm McGloin. Up front Cian Rooney delivered the goods in a strong second half showing.

It was a busy morning in the park last Saturday with Bundoran coming for an under 10 blitz, followed by the visit of Derrygonnelly for the under 8s first competitive action of the season. Ma

Realt Ruadh played a league game at home against Four Masters on Sunday and ran out convincing winners on a final scoreline of 2-14 to 1-4. It was great to see this new team taking shape and well done to Teddy, Terence and Paul for their commitment and steadfast encouragement.

The under 14s hosted Saint Naul's on Monday evening and delivered a great performance to run out 4-12 to 2-2 winners. Aodh Ruadh lead by five at the interval and turned the screw in the second half to run out victors on a 16 point margin while holding Mountcharles scoreless in the second 30. The Aodh Ruadh team was Áine Hill; Orla Keon, Alicia Clyne, Leah Travers; Lucy McGlynn, Síofra Hughes, Caitlin McGarrigle; Ella Clancy, Caoimhe Keon; Sarah Jane Keon, Leah O'Brien, Roisín Daly; Aisling Gallagher, Brídín Maguire, Eimear O'Brien. The senior hurlers chalked up the first win of their Ulster Táin Division 2B league campaign against Tyrone outfit, Naomh Columcille in Fr Tierney Park on Sunday. Aodh Ruadh delivered their best performance of the year so far to run out winners on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-7.

Our under 14 hurlers were well beaten at home on Thursday in the league by Setanta.

There was no winner of last week's Lotto jackpot of €4,100. The winning numbers drawn were 2, 3, 5, 7, 12 and 18. The seniors beat Naomh Ultan in the league on Sunday and the senior ladies began their Division Three League campaign with a win over Letterkenny Gaels.

Both our men's teams teams were at home to Milford at the weekend, our reserve team kept up their perfect start to the league with a convincing win to keep them top of the league with four wins from four. The senior team left it very late to snatch the points in a very close match that went down to the last kick of the game.

The U14s beat Ardara 5-7 to 2-9 at home on Monday last in the league.

The third team beat Ardara 1-11 to 0-2 in the league last Saturday and the seniors had another win in the league on Sunday. They beat Dungloe, the reserves lost.

Naomh Conaill are hosting the county Gaeltacht this year starting Friday 29th April to Mon 2nd May, the weekend starts off on Friday with a Ceili, music by Ceili Time from 9pm-12 in the Community Centre.


The senior match against Carndonagh was called off at the weekend. Good luck to Keelin Devenney on the launch of his new app "the clubhub" as it will be tested for the first time at the Pettigo game. Updates of every match detail will be recorded and sent via notification to all smart and android devices. More details on how to subscribe in the coming weeks.

The lotto draw took place last Monday evening in the hall. The numbers drawn were 8,9,18 & 21.

The jackpot was not won. Two lucky dip winners receive €50 Fiona Craig, Ballinacarrick and Breda Burns, Madavagh.


The monthly club meeting will take place on Monday 25th April - 9pm in the Clubhouse.

The seniors and reserves suffered defeat away to MacCumhaills on Sunday last. The club are holding a ‘Come Dine with Me’ event on Saturday May 21st. The ladies board meeting will take place on Monday 25th April at 8pm in the Clubrooms. The senior ladies had another great win against Ardara on Sunday last in very windy conditions.I f anyone has any unwanted clothing please use our Recycling facility at Club grounds. Proceeds goes to our Club.

There was no winner of our weekly flotto, the numbers drawn were: 4, 19, 28 and 30. Nearest were John Hegarty, Tullycleave and Paddy Breslin, Cloughboy. Next week’s jackpot now stands at €5,100.

The seniors and reserves took on Gaoth Dobhair at home at the weekend with the reserves beaten 1-13 to 0-6 and the seniors going down 3-18 to 1-10.

Our third team, in their first outing of the new campaign, also suffered defeat at the hands of Naomh Conaill on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-2. This weekend, both the senior and reserves travel to Kilcar, 1.30 and 3pm while the thirds are away to MacCumhaills on Saturday, with a 6pm start.

Our U14s lost out to Naomh Conaill on a scoreline of 5-7 to 2-09. Well done to Minor Board players Johnny Sweeney, Patrick Gallagher and Danny Walsh who were part of the Donegal U17 team which beat Monaghan 4-10 3-07 to reach Ulster final.

Annual Club Draw: The Club will be holding its Annual Club Draw in the Clubhouse on May 1st. As usual there is a great selection of prizes to be won and tickets can be purchased from any player or member of the Executive.

Our Seniors and Reserves have another long trip ahead of them this weekend as they travel to Malin. The Seniors have won 2 and lost 2 and having lost narrowly to Naomh Columba at the weekend will be hoping to bounce back against Malin.

Good luck to our Minors who play Glenfin in the Northern Div 3 Semi Final next Wednesday, 27th of April. Should the boys come through that game they would play the winners of Termon and Letterkenny Gaels in the final

Well done to Shaun Paul Barretts Donegal Minor team that are through to the Ulster Minor league final after an extra time win over Monaghan at the weekend. SPs boys will now play Tyrone in the final next Saturday as Donegal aim to take their third Ulster league title in a row.

Well done to Ryan McMahon and Ronan Docherty and all the Donegal U17 team and management that has advanced to the Ulster U17 league final after their win over Monaghan at the weekend.

Letterkenny Gaels

Letterkenny Gaels are pleased to announce that we will be presenting the Monday night Bingo in Arena 7 every Monday night. The Jackpot this week is €1600 Doors from 8pm. Eyes down 9pm.

The senior footballers recorded a good win over Burt at the weekend. Both the senior and reserves are away to Naomh Ultan on Saturday. Throw in times are 5.30pm (reserve) and 7pm (senior). All support welcome.

The club are running Guthanna 1916 which is a schools public speaking competition next Monday 25th April and Tuesday 26th April beginning each evening at 7pm sharp in the Gaels Clubroom at the Clubhouse, Thorn Road, Letterkenny. The competition is open to students in Sixth Class and students in secondary schools. Participants may apply to take part through their school or their GAA club. Gaeltacht scholarships for Colaiste Aoidh Mhic Bhricne are available and could be won by young Letterkenny Gaels members. The deadline for applications is 29th April.

The U-14 footballers played Naomh Colmcille at Pairc na nGael on Monday evening and unfortunately lost out by 3 points in what was a high scoring and entertaining game.

The U-16 football lads had a good win over Cloughaneely in an invitational tournament in Annagry at the weekend. They are now through to the Naomh Mhuire organised tournament final.

The Senior Ladies had their first game of the season when they took on Fanad Gaels at Pairc na nGael. The girls lost out to a strong Fanad side. They are fixed to play Mc Cools in 2 weeks time.

Naomh Brid

There was no overall winner of this week’s lotto draw which was held in the 7 Arches Bar, Laghey. The jackpot now stands at £1600. The numbers drawn were 9, 11, 14, 15, and 21. £25 winners were Tia and TJ Mc Groarty, Pauric Mc Garrigle, Ann Gallagher, and Shauna Brogan. Next week’s draw will be held in Jamesies Bar, Ballintra, on Monday 25th April.

Under 14 match against Naomh Mhuire has been changed to Tuesday 26th April at 7pm in Pairc Naomh Brid.

The seniors and reserves both recorded good victories over neighbours Termon on Sunday.

The Junior men recorded a good away win over Glenfin in their opening league game last Saturday evening.

The senior ladies were beaten by a strong Glenfin team in the 13-a-side league on Sunday. The Seniors hurlers were free last week. Best of luck to Brian McGeehin who is managing the U17's and Noel Keaveny who is a mentor on the minor team. Best of luck also to all our players involved. Both games are in Maghera with the minor and the U17s.

The U14 boys Division. One football team travelled to Fanad on Monday and recorded a good win.

.The Century Cinemas Sunday Morning Football Academy returns outdoors to O'Donnell Park this Sunday (April 24th) at 11am for all groups. Despite the cold and wintry conditions there was a great turn out for Saturday morning’s coaching for U6s U8s and U10s. One more week at Kilmacrennan NS for U6s and U8s.

Well done to the U14 boys who recorded another victory in their league campaign on Monday evening over Buncrana.. That’s leave the boys with a Division One quarter final at the Burn Road on Friday week April 29th.

Well done to all eight Termon lads who were part of the Loreto Milford U14 team that won the first ever Ulster GAA competition last week.

Last week’s lotto numbers were 10,11,23 and 24. Open draw winners were Malcolm McCormick and Sean McGlynn c/o Bingo.

The seniors ladies had an excellent victory on Sunday against Carndonagh. The U14 girls Division One team lost to a very strong St Eunan’s side on Tuesday evening. Aoife Giles, Casey Gallagher and Cora McElwaine played very well for Termon.

The U14 girls’ Division 2 team made the long journey to Killybegs on Monday night where, despite an admirable performance, they lost. Chelsea Gorman was excellent in defence and Aine Gallagher worked hard in midfield with Jodie McFadden very effective up front.


The club will have a group entry in the Darkness Into Light event on May 7th next. People can walk or run the event in aid of Pieta House. Anyone interested in joining the group and raising money for this really worthy cause can text 086 1611240. The cost is €20.

Anyone looking to help out at underage training will now have to wait until the 29th April to get Garda Vetted. Garda Vetting forms are no longer accepted but those needing garda vetting can do so online after 29th April.

Ladies game was postponed at the weekend. It will now take place this Sunday 24th at home. Table Quiz takes place in Callaghans on Friday 27th May, teams of 4, €20 per team. All support welcome.

The minor board and general monthly meetings take place on Monday next, April 25th. The minor board meeting starts at 7.55pm and at least one manager from each underage squad is asked to be there. The general meeting starts at 9pm.
