Four Masters came good in the second half to get another brace of league points against an understrength Malin in Tirconaill Park.
Four Masters . . . . . . . . . . 1-12
Malin . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0-8
There was a little niggle in the game and both sides finished with 14 as Barry Monaghan and John Gerard McLaughlin got second yellows and reds in the 50th minute after clashing on numerous occasions throughout the game.
The clinching score came in the 41st minute when Dillon Muldoon soared high in midfield to win possession. Barry Monaghan carried on the move to release Karl Lacey on the burst and he finished to the Malin net for a goal worthy of winning any game.
It could have been different after Lacey clashed with Barry Dunnion after 12 minutes which resulted in Dunnion having to go off with a head injury. For a short time it looked as if Lacey was in trouble, but he recovered.
It was the most notable incident of the a poor first half which saw Four Masters lead 0-5 to 0-4 at the break. They had also lost Peadar Espey after he scored a free a couple of minutes earlier.
Stephen and Benny McLaughlin looked lively for the visitors, and they were boosted further by the introduction of Matthew Byrne before the break.
But whatever was said at the break was enough to see Masters stretch the lead to 0-8 to 0-4 by the 38th minute.
Malin had chances, but seven bad second half wides didn’t help their cause and their only return for plenty of effort was four Matthew Byrne points.
Once they got the goal, Four Masters maintained a lead of at least four points and right at the end Lacey and Dara Quinn stretched that to six. Malin did have a late goal chance but Benny McLaughlin was denied by a great save by Ryan Haughey.
