Letterkenny boxer Paddy McShane was the winner of a National Boys’ Boxing Championship at last Saturday’s National Boys’ Boxing Championships finals.
Paddy won the title in the Boy 1, 36 kilo final with an impressive win over M J O’Brien, Fr Horgan BC, Cork.
In a top class performance he won all three rounds to get the unanimous decision of the judges. His big performance on the way to the title was in the semi-final when he defeated the reigning champion and highly rated Jonathan O’Donnell, from the Three Bridges Club, Dublin.
Paddy went into this fight very much the underdog, but took the fight to O’Donnell and was the clear winner of the first two rounds on his way to one of the big upsets in the championships.
Dunfanaghy boxer Bernie McDonaghy is also celebrating national success this week. Bernie defeated Jake O’Donnell, Castlebar ABC, to capture the Boy 2, 33 kilo National title.
Meanwhile, there was final disappointment for Letterkenny BC boxer Dylan Browne McMonagle and Pauric O’Donnell, Dungloe BC, in their respective finals.
