Ardara got the new season up and running with a narrow home win over an understrength Glenswilly at a sunny Pearse Park.

Brendan McNelis, with a 50 metre free with the last kick of the game, saw the locals pick up the two precious league points and good start under new manager Seamus Gallagher.
Gallagher had Connie Molloy, who is back from America, on the sideline alongside him as part of his management team.
Ardara lined out with Paddy McGrath at centre half-back with new team captain Conor Classon in the middle of the field. Michael Murphy was on the edge of the square for Glenswilly, who were without Neil Gallagher.
Ardara were the better team in the first half but trailed by a point at half-time as a Darren McGinley goal helped Glenswilly to a 1-2 to 0-4 interval lead. Gary McFadden converted two frees for Glenswilly’s first half points. Brendan McNelis, two frees, along with Ryan Malley and Joe Melly scored the first half Ardara points.
The second half was close throughout. Conor Classon and Gareth Concarr, three frees, posted the points for the locals before McNelis landed the massive winner.
Michael Murphy scored two of Glenswilly’s second half points and Gary McFadden, one, all frees.
